Terms of Service
The rules of the road. Hopefully more readable than most.
Last updated: January 2025
The Gist
- • RidePost connects people—we don’t provide transportation ourselves
- • Be respectful and honest in your interactions
- • You’re responsible for your own safety and decisions
- • Don’t do illegal stuff or ruin the experience for others
- • We can remove users who violate these terms
1. What RidePost Is (and Isn’t)
RidePost is a platform that helps travellers find each other. We provide the tools to post trips, search for rides, and coordinate with other users. Think of us as a community bulletin board with some helpful features.
We are not:
- • A transportation company or ride-sharing service
- • A taxi, limo, or for-hire vehicle service
- • A payment processor or financial intermediary
- • An insurance provider
When you coordinate a ride through RidePost, you’re making a private arrangement with another user. We facilitate the connection—everything else is between you two.
2. Who Can Use RidePost
To use RidePost, you must:
- • Be at least 18 years old
- • Have a valid email address
- • Agree to these terms (by using RidePost, you do)
- • Be legally permitted to use the service in your location
If you’re a driver offering rides, you’re responsible for ensuring you have all necessary licences, insurance, and legal permissions to do so in your jurisdiction.
3. Your Account
You’re responsible for your account and everything that happens under it. This means:
- • Keep your login credentials secure
- • Don’t share your account with others
- • Use accurate information in your profile
- • Let us know immediately if you suspect unauthorized access
One account per person, please. We may suspend or terminate duplicate accounts.
4. Community Guidelines
Be a Good Human
- Be honest about your trips, timing, and intentions
- Communicate clearly and respond to messages in a reasonable time
- Honour your commitments—if you confirm a ride, show up
- Rate others fairly and honestly
- Treat everyone with respect, regardless of who they are
Don’t Be That Person
- Don’t harass, threaten, or discriminate against anyone
- Don’t create fake accounts or impersonate others
- Don’t use RidePost for commercial ride services
- Don’t spam, scam, or manipulate the system
- Don’t do anything illegal or encourage others to do so
5. Safety & Responsibility
Your safety is your responsibility. We provide tools to help you make informed decisions—like ratings and messaging—but we can’t guarantee the behaviour of other users.
We recommend:
- • Chat with potential ride partners before committing
- • Check their ratings and ride history
- • Meet in public places when possible
- • Tell someone you trust about your plans
- • Trust your instincts—if something feels off, it probably is
RidePost is not responsible for the actions, behaviour, or reliability of any user. We’re the bulletin board, not the babysitter.
6. Cost Sharing
RidePost doesn’t process payments. How you split costs with your travel companion is entirely between you two. Common approaches include:
- • Splitting fuel costs
- • E-transfer or cash
- • Trading rides
- • Buying lunch
Whatever you agree on, make sure it’s clear before the ride. Disputes about payment are between you and the other user—we can’t mediate financial disagreements.
7. Ratings
Ratings help build trust. When you complete a ride, both parties rate each other. Here’s how it works:
- • Rate based on actual experience, not personal grudges
- • Be fair—we track how fairly you rate others
- • Don’t retaliate against negative ratings with false reviews
- • Report suspicious rating patterns to us
We may remove ratings that appear manipulated, retaliatory, or fraudulent.
8. Content You Post
You own the content you post (trip descriptions, messages, profile info). By posting, you grant RidePost a licence to display it on the platform. We won’t sell your content or use it outside the service.
Don’t post content that’s illegal, harmful, defamatory, or infringes on others' rights. We may remove content that violates these terms.
9. Termination
You can leave anytime. Delete your account from your profile settings, and we’ll remove your data within 30 days.
We can terminate accounts that violate these terms, harm the community, or abuse the platform. Depending on severity, we may warn you first, temporarily suspend your account, or ban you permanently.
10. Limitation of Liability
RidePost is provided "as is." We do our best to keep things running smoothly, but we can’t guarantee the service will always be available, error-free, or meet your expectations.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, RidePost is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to: missed rides, disputes with other users, personal injury, property damage, or any direct, indirect, or consequential losses.
You use RidePost at your own risk and agree to hold harmless RidePost, its operators, and affiliates.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as RidePost evolves. If we make significant changes, we’ll notify you via email or a prominent notice on the platform. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of British Columbia.
